So why don't they have a Dravid gag?

So I was watching Vikram Sathaye doing his very famous thing on Riggs' recommendation. And as Providence would have it, at the exact moment that Mr Sathaye very graciously stuck out his Ganguly ass (pardon the tastelessness) at his very large audience of cricket-type and not-so-cricket-type folks, Mr Dravid struck out with a grace in equal measure. Riggs tells me there is a fairly large crop of stand up comics that specialize in cricket and cricketers these days. It's only natural I suppose, given the sheer size of the subcontinental market. Maggi has managed to sell ridiculously bad instant noodles (tastemaker included) for decades now.2 minutes to make, and 2 days to get over. Anything sells around here. Well, anyway, I was wondering why none of these guys seem to have a Dravid gag. Obviously, there is potential there. Or, wait, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the magnitude of this man's dreariness leaves no scope for humor. Maybe Captain Bumble's lack of imagination is so tragic, that it's ignoble to make it the subject of an evening's gig. As Brian Lara sent our boys on a leather hunt around his home ground, and Mr Consistent stared ahead in a stony, unnerved silence, it occurred to me that despite the hilarity that the cynical amongst us may associate with a subcontinental team being led by a Mills & Boon protagonist, there is absolutely nothing here to stand up and laugh about.

definitely nothing to laugh about..the feeling of gloom and despair after 4 jokes in a row..think we got the angles wrong at windies grounds...they ain't exactly geometrically regular ya know...but then this is just die-hard fan searching for lame excuse

huh? even if lame - did they bowl to us from right angles to the batsman? or did they stand at the notch of a v while batting to us. come up with something lamer - like poor teamwork/dravid and the coach just not measuring up...etc...

You know? Its so funny that we, as a race, conform to the exact same mould - If it works, raise them to high heaven, but if it doesn't, blame the Cap'n and coach! Come on, you were the same guys raving about the duo barely a month back! And now they suck? Tch, tch!

Truth be told, lets be adult and not search for excuses - angles, tiredness, lack of ideas, etc. We didn't play well enough (I mean where's the shame here?) and they did! Remember (and Riggs DOES remember this, let me assure you) - A bad toolsman blames his tools. Introspection? Yes. Blame? No, since it gets you nowhere

Earth Callin Sundar, Earth callin Sundar... Come back, come back! Who changing wot tune? I still think Rahul Dravid is the best Indian Captain of all time, a true leader and etc etc, Greg Chappel will still be the best coach we ever had and yadda yadda.

I also say we was outplayed (which we were), we lost coz we had spinners called Dave Mohammed who were bowled better than we did and batsmen called Bravo who batted better than we did ( also bowled a few good ones )... And we lost. 4 in a row. And woe is me.

And we have a test series to win and I still dunno who is changing tunes !

ahem, sundar with an a, i suspect you've missed the theme of this blog mon. 'we' sang no praises of no 'duo'. the raison d'etre of this space is that we don't think too highly of the coach, and half of us atleast dont particularly idolize the captain either. and while we are flattered that you deign to see us as representative of 'the race', we're just a couple of opinionated cricket fans with time on our hands. appreciate your time though mon, glad you read the blog. feel free to blame us for anything from the water content in your milk to the next nuclear holocaust. cheers.

me no change tune either...while we reserve comment on dravid - early days yet (1-4 drubbing not withstanding), we thot ganguli rocked, and rolled - and did jigs showing hairy (tho the temptation is high to rhyme that - we shall desist) chest.

we be just as opinionated - not really a cricket fan either - and hugely jingoistic and want us to win no matter what.

*groan* Riggs, Bart, et al. You guys just insufferable or what? I referred to the 'race' of Indians and not you specifically. There, I had to call THAT out?

And anyway, there is a space for comments just so that people like me - opinionated or otherwise - can say their piece. And I dont need you guys wasting your time on my comments when you can contribute meaningfully to YOUR blog that I am 'allowed' to visit!
